WELCOME, STAY A WHILE.

A collection of things I'm doing, places I'm going, people I'm meeting, and thoughts I'm probably spending too much time on.
A personal journal about life in Rome, medical school, travel, things I'm interested in, and everything else that happens along the way.

Well, where to begin?
I'm Aspen. An American living in Rome, currently pursuing my medical degree, with a fairly long list of interests outside of medicine and probably more opinions than are strictly necessary.

I'm Aspen. An American living in Rome, currently pursuing my medical degree, with a fairly long list of interests outside of medicine and probably more opinions than are strictly necessary.
I moved to Rome in June 2024, after graduating high school and deciding to move to another country. It was a somewhat unconventional next step, but I've never been particularly good at doing things in the conventional order.
Since then, I've been figuring out what it means to build a life somewhere that wasn't originally home. Between universityl, trips back to the States, weekends exploring somewhere new, and the everyday business of living in Rome, there's usually quite a lot going on.
I've always been someone with a lot of interests. I love a good book, a long dinner, getting dressed up for absolutely no particular occasion, finding a new restaurant, planning a trip, and having conversations that somehow last three hours longer than intended. I'm interested in people, places, relationships, culture, and the little details that make everyday life interesting.
I'm also an overthinker, which is probably useful for writing and less useful for just about everything else.
Aspen Abroad started as a way to document moving abroad. It has since become a place for a much wider collection of things: personal essays, life in Rome, travel, friendships, fashion, recommendations, books, and whatever else happens to be occupying my mind.
I don't really want to limit it to one subject. There's enough going on in life without having to choose just one thing to be interested in.
So, consider this my little corner of the internet. A running collection of places, people, experiences, opinions, recommendations, and the occasional unnecessarily detailed observation.
In no particular order, of course.
I'm glad you're here.
